Get out of the tourist-packed city center and experience the real Thailand!
Our overnight tours take you on foot through the jungles of the mountains and hills of Chiang Mai to meet local hill tribes and stay in their remote jungle village overnight. Experience their authentic off-grid life-style. Let the white-noise of the jungle and its clean air give you the best sleep you’ve had in years. In the morning, get ready for an unforgettable bamboo rafting experience before meeting local elephants. Your visit will enrich you with a taste of Karen life that hasn’t changed in centuries, and the revenue will go straight back into supporting the Karen community.
Our first day
|08:00-08.30 am||Pick up at your hotel. After a one-hour drive to the local market in the north of Chiang Mai (Maetang district), you will have time to buy everything you might need for your trip (e.g. toilet paper, mosquito repellant). After that we will drive to the Mokfa waterfall, where you will have time to swim or relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery.|
|12:15 am||Lunch at local restaurant.|
|01:00 pm||From there we will start our 3-4 hour trekking tour into the jungle. Your guide will provide you with information about the plants, animals, and villages surrounding you and will answer any questions you may have about Thailand or the local way of life. At the top of the mountain you will enjoy an incredible view of the jungle and the mountains.|
|05:00 pm||Arrival at a Karen Village, where you will meet your host family, who will prepare a delicious meal for you. After dinner you can enjoy your evening around a fire.|
Our last day
|09:00 am||In the morning a nice breakfast awaits you before the one-hour trek to a local elephant park.|
|10:30 am||You will have a chance to interact with the elephants, feeding them, playing with them, and bathing them in the river (no riding!).|
|11:00 am||Board a bamboo raft for the two-hour ride down the Mae Tang river to a Shan village.|
|01:00 pm||In the village the locals will have lunch prepared for you. When finished we will return to Chiang Mai (two hours) and bring you to your hotel around 4-5 pm.|
